Carpinteria

We spend the long Presidents Day weekend at the coast in Santa Barbara and Carpinteria (just south of Santa Barbara) and the weather could not have been better for February: blue skies and not too cold. Part of the Carpinteria beach has natural occurring tar pits with tar oozing out at several places. And not surprisingly, you can see oil rigs in the ocean.

This picture shows two of those oil rigs with dark rocks in the foreground. Although the rocks looked almost pitch black, no tar was flowing over them.
