Some time ago I brought the NIK Silver Efex Pro2 software and I really liked it. So I was very happy a few weeks ago to receive an email from Google/NIK with a link to a free download of their complete suite of plugins. After some hiccups in getting the plugins to work I started to play around with Color Efex Pro4 and it definitely holds promises. This is a photo I made when taking a cruise on the canals of Amsterdam earlier this year. And while the original was a bit flat, stacking some filters definitely added some punch to the image. What do you think?
This past two weeks it has been winter with freezing temperatures during the night and day. And even some snow came our way, most recently this Sunday. It was snowing the whole day and we decided to go outside when it looked like it had stopped. But then it started again and it was not only us that were caught outside in the snow, this man walking his dog was caught too. But whether he liked it?
Some time ago I visited Amsterdam and made a boat tour on the canals. This is an impression of one of the many canals with it bridges. What I like is the modes of transportation that are visible or implied: by car, bike or boat. The pedestrian is missing as is an airplane from nearby Schiphol Airport.
While I mostly convert architectural images from color to black&white, once in a while there is an image that is fine in color too. The image below was taken inside a building at the Strijp-S site in Eindhoven (Netherlands) during the Eindhoven Glow 2012 festival this November.
Conversion of the image to black&white puts the emphasis on the structure of the inside of the building while the color version is more about atmosphere and less about structure. Or at least that is my interpretation. What do you think?
Yesterday was the last day of the 2012 edition of Eindhoven Glow. It was a great festival with for the first time a small representation at the Strijp-S site too. The route through the center of Eindhoven was 4 km long (about 2.5 mile) and this year for the first time they made part of the route traffic free which was really nice.
As described on the Glow website, Glow is ‘a forum of interventions, installations, performances and events based on the phenomena of artificial light’. This year’s theme was facades and faces.
You can visit the Glow12 website at www.gloweindhoven.nl for some more background information of the light art works and the artists but this is my impression of it:
